muster
muster is a pretty large-scale project, and it straddles some unusual lines. Or anyway, it has pushed my studio practice and thinking in very unexpected directions.
I'm trying to construct a skeletal framework that is something like what SoCal-based Finishing School calls 'tactical media,' except that I'm using an involuted marketing paradigm to drive my points across.
muster seeks to challenge and warp the conventional ways that artists' lives and practices are captured by the various press outlets. I'm going about it by constructing several functional, automated dissemination machines.
The inputs are first-hand accounts. The methodologies are regular ole marketing practices. The outputs are some websites, some print items, and some conceptual refigurings of the strategic and tactical ways we construct and are codified by artist speech acts.
It's a work that will be in progress for a long time. What I have at whatever stage will be visible, even as it changes shape.
